How we research
Most cost pages quote one insurer’s average with no date. We label every figure by what it is: an official statistic, a regulator-approved rate, an insurer-reported median or average, or our own calculation, with its source and period.
Official figures come from rating bureaus, state funds, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, AHRQ and the NAIC. Insurer figures are shown side by side so you can see how much they disagree and why. Read the methodology.
